Resolution in Action

AWT supports Resolution 1325 adopted by the United Nations Security Council and the entities working for its implementation in Jordan.

22 November 2016

Landmark Hotel, Amman –  The Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW) is devoted to the conduct of comprehensive studies and assessments of women-related legislations. They are dedicated to support the mainstreaming of a gender-equal perspective in all policy areas. This is carried out with the objective of improving the status of women and enhancing their role in the national development.

In late November of 2016, the JNCW organised a project titled “The Jordanian Hashemite fund for Human Development JOHUD”. The project received generous funding from the government of Finland in order to facilitate the best resolution implementation in the country of Jordan.

As a result, the National Coalition (JONAP) has been established with the purpose of constructing a follow-up and evaluation plan for Resolution 1325. This resolution was adopted by the Security Council in 2000 focusing on women, security, and peace in Jordan.

When put into practise, JONAP aimes to increase the participation of women in the security sector (civil and military) in Jordan in addition to peacekeeping missions. JONAP also aims to reach fruitful participation of women in peace operations countering violent extremisim. Moreover, increased services will be provided including phsycological, social, legal, and medical services. The goal of the improved services is to support the most vulnerable of the society specifically the refugee communities of Jordan.

AWT believes it is imperative to share input in the area of gender advocacy since it has been working for years in this field in specific. Similarly, an elected committee has been established within our organisation to stay up to date with the government’s legislative progress. For this reason, information can be shared, gathered, and networked with organisations of civil community to collectively work towards the best implementation of this resolution.
